Excellence

Why do I need to exhibit the Spirit of excellence in all I do?

The bible says “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?…” Matt. 5:13
We all know that salt is a preservative and a flavour enhancer. Salt without a salty savour has no power to preserve or flavour food. Likewise savour refers to our attitude, a believer without the right attitude CANNOT influence his workplace, his family, school etc. he can’t be a good witness for our Lord Jesus Christ.
When you as a believer put in your best, Jesus calls it “going the extra mile,”. You set a standard of what is expected of every believer, unbelievers notice that you are different. With the right attitude, we can win the world to Jesus.
“Ye are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” Matt.5:14-16
When light is turned on in a dark room, darkness has to give way. The light totally changes the atmosphere in the room. You are the light, you cannot be hidden. Good or bad attitudes will be noticed because you have called yourself a Christian. You can either dispel darkness with your light (your spirit of excellence) or make the darkness deeper. Jesus said let your light so shine by your good works which you do with an excellent spirit that people will glorify God. Remember you were created to give God pleasure (Rev.4:11).
As Christians we ought to do everything with vigour, dedication, commitment and excellence. Colossians3:23, 24 says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
You might not have the opportunity like Daniel to influence Kings but you can stand out and make a difference in your work place, your school, your neighbourhood, your Church, among your peers and family etc.
Therefore, we are called to strive for excellence in order to be the best testimony for the Lord that we can be.
Unbelievers are watching to see what kind of a difference Jesus is making in your life, and this is an opportunity for you to point others to Him by being diligent in your tasks and being above reproach in your ethics. Daniel exemplified this spirit during his service as a highly regarded administrator in a secular environment. The Scripture says that "he distinguished himself among the administrators . . . because of his exceptional qualities" so much so that "they could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent" (Daniel 6:3-4 NIV).
God said in 1Samuel2:30 “…for them that honour Me I will honour…” A commitment to do all you do with a spirit of excellence is a commitment to honour God. When you honour God, He promises to honour you back.
God expects a high standard and attitude of excellence in every believer.
“As God’s “servants,” we should set the example of excellence in every sphere.” – Rick Renner
So don’t settle for average, go the extra mile and be a person of excellence.
Your confession should be “I will seek to excel in all that I do so that the Lord will be glorified.”
